The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has announced a boost of over 3 million rides since last year. According to a press release, MCDOT has seen 15.4 million rides last year rise to over 18.5 million.
According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the jump of over 20 percent is good for the second largest ridership increase in the country among agencies with over 15 million rides. In an Instagram post displaying the biggest increases, only Milwaukee’s system saw more growth with a 28 percent increase.
The biggest difference can be seen on weekdays. Ridership increased from around 46,000 to 58,000 each weekday in the 2024 Fiscal Year.
Fares for the Ride On bus are only $1, with monthly passes priced at $22.50. Residents over 65 and under 18, as well as those with disabilities, can ride for free.
