Medical diagnosis forces Billy Joel to cancel all scheduled concerts [Video]

(WFSB) – A recent diagnosis forced musician Billy Joel to cancel all of his scheduled concerts.

Joel’s people posted a statement to social media on Friday that said he was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, or NPH.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, normal pressure hydrocephalus is a brain disorder in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain’s ventricles, which are fluid-filled chambers. Symptoms included cognitive impairment, difficulty walking, and more. It is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s.

“This condition has be exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance,” the statement read. “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during his recovery period.”

The statement said Joel was thankful for the care he received and was fully committed to prioritizing his health.
