MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Montgomery County’s Ride On bus system is celebrating significant growth this year.
On Monday, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) announced that the bus system ranked second in the nation for having the most growth in 2024 for systems that serve between 15 and 50 million riders each year, according to the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) 2024 ridership report.

MCDOT said that its Ride On buses carried over 58,000 people each weekday in 2024. In the previous year, the buses only had 46,000 riders each weekday.
“We know transit systems across the country are still recovering from the reduction in ridership since the pandemic. I am pleased to see riders returning to Ride On,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in a statement.
