Life is uncertain. But, how are accountants expected to predict the future when it comes to contingencies, such as lawsuits? Evaluating uncertainty can be confusing! However, this module will make it crystal clear, covering the accounting for and disclosures of contingencies under ASC 450 and guarantees under ASC 460. This module walks through the accounting considerations for unasserted claims, onerous contracts, and gain contingencies. It then delves into the accounting for guarantees in accordance with ASC 460, including related disclosures, wrapping up with a discussion of the disclosure requirements within U.S. GAAP related to commitments.
