What is an earnings call?
An earnings call is a press conference or a webcast in which the company presents its financial results to investors, analysts, media, the general public, etc.

(Explained in detail in the video)

Structure of earnings call
Safe harbor statement
Discussion of financial result
Question and answer session
Closing remarks

Advantages
The earnings call allows the company to present its financial results to investors, the media, and the general public.

The attendees of the earnings call event get to speak directly with the company’s management and get their queries cleared.

Those who track companies’ performances for investment decisions can benefit significantly from the earnings call meeting.

Disadvantages
The purpose of the earnings call meeting would fail if the company’s management just read out the financial result or followed a pre-written script.

If the financial result contains enough jargon that the attendees are unaware of, they may not be able to come up with good questions.

When it comes to the Q&A session, companies choose who gets to answer on behalf of the company rather than the attendees choosing.

IFRS 16 Lessor Accounting Example 2 | Finance Lease [Video]

When a lessor accounts for a finance lease under IFRS 16, the lessor must derecognize the asset from its statement of financial position and record a lease receivable upon commencement of the lease. If the lessor is a manufacturer or dealer, then the lessor must also record sales revenue and cost of goods sold upon commencement of the lease. Both the sales revenue and cost of goods sold must be reduced by the present value of the unguaranteed residual value. The lessor will then recognize interest revenue throughout the lease term. At the end of the lease, the lessor will restore the asset to its statement of financial position. If the actual residual value turns out to be less than the unguaranteed residual value, the lessor records a loss for the difference.— Edspira is the creation of Michael McLaughlin, who went from teenage homelessness to a PhD.
